What is Coaching?

Coaching, with a professional coach, is the practice of supporting an individual through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result. Coaching is differentiated from therapy and counselling since clients are considered healthy (ie not sick) and move forward from their present situation. Previous psychological studies indicate that individuals are much more likely to follow through on tasks when they are monitored by others, rather than when they attempt to ‘self-monitor.’

What is Financial Coaching?

Financial or money coaching became established in the U.S. and the U.K. as a result of the impact of the GFC and the urgent need for people to learn good budgeting skills. Like wealth coaching, financial coaching deals with the psychology of wealth, however unlike wealth coaching, it also deals with the nitty gritty of the numbers, and most importantly teaches you how to work the numbers out for yourself. Kristina will guide you through the process of setting up a realistic budget tailored to your needs, which includes planning in advance for your bills and those ‘unexpected’ costs, as well as setting up a savings strategy. She will then show you how to manipulate your budget so that you can adjust it independently going forward.

What is the difference between financial coaching and financial planning or advice?

In contrast to financial planners or advisors, financial coaches do not provide financial advice to clients. Financial planners and advisors will tell you what to invest in, such as properties or stocks and shares. Kristina helps you to generate enough money to invest in the first place, to manage your own finances and plan for the future. She will also assist you to learn about different investment strategies, so that you are aware of all the benefits and pitfalls.

How can coaching help me?

Do you feel stuck in the rat race; like all your hard work goes unappreciated and unacknowledged, and you’re still getting nowhere? Do you feel like time passes by and you still haven’t achieved what you want; that holiday; that car; on track to an early retirement; or work/life balance? This is where coaching can help. All too often we get trapped in the fast pace of life and forget to stop, look around and enjoy where we are at and prepare and plan for a better future. More and more people and organisations are turning to coaching as it gets you results. You wouldn’t expect an Olympic athlete to win gold without a good coach. Coaching can help you focus on what is missing in your life, and help you to strategically use your time and efforts to achieve those goals.

What is the difference between Coaching and Counselling?

Counselling focuses on the past as a way of helping you to understand your current problems, so that you can change this yourself. Coaching is future orientated, working with you on present behaviours and goals in order to achieve that brighter future. Coaching is neither counselling nor therapy, and costs are not redeemable via Medicare.

How long does coaching last?

Coaching lasts how ever long you want it to last. The number of sessions is based on your needs and the goals you want to achieve. Typically, most clients are on track within 6 to 12 sessions. Some clients then like to have a refresher session every 3 to 6 months to ensure they remain on track. Significant changes to habitual behaviours take time and without truly cementing new patterns we almost always revert to our default positions.

What if I’m not sure that coaching is right for me?

It is vital that you are 100% committed! For this reason I offer a free first consultation to discuss your goals and whether you are prepared to make those positive changes to get there.

Is there any situation in which you would not take me on as a client?

Sorry to say, but yes. If I determine that the cost of coaching is not in your best financial interest and is actually going to be a hindrance to your current financial circumstance, I will not agree to a coaching package with you, but rather than give you tips and strategies to improve your situation independently. This will be determined during our first free consultation, so please be open and honest about your financial situation. However, I do find that it is of benefit to most clients.

How much does it cost and what is the frequency of the sessions?

Ongoing sessions are $160 + GST, however the frequency of sessions are variable dependant on both your current financial situation and the type of goal/s. Clients dealing solely with debt typically have 1 session per month. Clients looking to increase income or work on another lifestyle goal, typically have 1 session per fortnight or week.

Every interaction between Kristina and yourself is considered completely confidential, except where there is risk to your own or another’s life.
